St Thomas Bed and Breakfast is located in Peania, a small Athenian suburb, birthplace of ancient orator and demagogue Demosthenes. The area has been agricultural for centuries and still boasts acres of grapevines and olive groves.

Getting around

We are just a few minutes drive from the airport. Athens city centre is easily accessible within twenty minutes by metro. We can arrange taxis on request.

Beaches and ports

There are many beaches within easy access including Blue Flag beaches. Several picturesque ports are a short drive away including Porto Rafti, Rafina and Aghia Marina with crossings to the nearby island of Evia. We are happy to advise on places to visit and arrange ferry bookings as required.

Local attractions

As well as the many attractions Athens city centre has to offer, there are many local places to visit

  • Vineries and olive presses – we can arrange visits to these local enterprises
  • Koutouki Cave - one of Europe’s most beautiful caves just ten minutes’ drive from St Thomas B & B
  • Marathon - site of the battle of Marathon fought in 492 BC between Persians and Athenians where the tomb of Athenians who perished still stands along with an archaeological museum. The area is also birthplace of the original classic marathon. The race still runs twice a year from Marathon to the Kalimarmara stadium in the centre of Athens with thousands travelling here to participate from all corners of the globe.
  • Lake Vouliagmeni – a large and natural mineral spa lake fed by underground thermal springs with well-documented healing properties.
  • Cape Sounion – this stunningly beautiful ancient temple with spectacular sea views and world-renowned sunsets is just 45 minutes away by car or bus
  • Corinth Canal – awe-inspiring nineteenth century feat of engineering that has become one of the most famous landmarks in Greece – an hour away from St Thomas B & B
  • Vorres Museum – nearby art museum housing traditional and modern Greek collections with magnificent gardens
  • Mediterranean Garden Society – worldwide forum devoted to Mediterranean plants and gardens. Look out for international symposiums here as well as informal get-togethers.
